POLICIES CONCERNING ELECTIVES
NOT OFFERED BY ALPHA OMEGA CURRICULUM

·          Courses need to be PRE-APPROVED in order for them to count for high school credit.

·         Because we have a limited number of electives offered by the Alpha Omega Curriculum (as well as Bob Jones and Abeka), we know many parents and students would desire to receive high school credits for other areas of study.  An example would be Woodshop.

·         Our request is that you keep an accurate diary of the amount of time spent on each subject or project along with the objective(s) of the elective course(s) and the results.  If it requires a project such as making a dress or building a log cabin, please take photographs from start to finish so we can see the progress made and give the appropriate number of credits.  It is desirable to have someone skilled in the subject area to grade the project from an objective viewpoint.  We will need to see copies of the daily log and pictures (if applicable).

·         The number of electives required for each degree plan is stated on the “High School Credits Required For Graduation” information page.  If you have any questions, please contact our office.

·         Here are some examples of Elective courses: Journalism, computer courses, farming, gardening, animal husbandry, practical experience by working at a paid job for a minimum of 15 hours per week or volunteering at a local church, medical field or community service.  Other options are any type of involvement in a mission project, or fine arts program.

If you are uncertain about whether a certain subject area should count toward a high school credit, please contact our office by letter or phone so we can consult with you and come to a mutual decision.

**If you enroll in Summit Christian Academy, we will send you additional information concerning our policies in our “High School Brochure.”  There are also specific course options with the amount of credit given for each one that our enrolled students can consider pursuing.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION COURSES REQUIRED FOR ALL 4 YEARS OF HIGH SCHOOL

HERE ARE OUR GUIDELINES:

Physical Education is a required subject each year in high school and earns ½ credit per year. A student is required to have 2 ½ hours per week.  This can be 30 minutes a day or 45 minutes every other day of some type of aerobic exercise.  Examples would be basketball, softball or baseball, a video workout tape, exercise machines, lifting weights, working out at a health club, etc.  Upon enrollment, you will receive guidelines on how to document your PE activity for proper credit.

If a student has retained credits for PE from their former school, these will be counted toward graduation.  However, we still require that they continue their PE course of activity until they graduate.
